Expressing indignation over a poster of Karan Johar's latest production Kurbaan, where actress Kareena Kapoor is shown flashing her bare back, Shiv Sena workers tied a saree around one such poster in suburban Juhu. Women Shiv Sena members, led by area Vibhagpramukh Jitendra Janawale, tied a saree around the poster of Kareena, who is shown holding a bare-chested Saif Ali Khan, her real life boyfriend in the image. "How are such obscene posters being allowed by the authorities," Janawale asked. "Several women and children pass by the posters. What effect will it have on them," he added. "We will soon visit Kareena's residence and present her a saree," he said. The movie, starring Saif Ali Khan, Kareena Kapoor and Vivek Oberoi, is slated for release later this month. It is directed by Rensil D'Silva and is a romance set against the backdrop of terrorism. Veteran actor Om Puri is upset with his wife, Nandita Puri for highlighting his sexual life in her biography Unlikely Hero: The Story of Om Puri. Puri was apparently reacting to an interview that Nandita had given to NDTV's Group Editor Barkha Dutt on her show The Buck Stops Here a few days back. This is what Nandita had said on the show: "I know that the instinct of a wife to begin with is that of a very protective spouse but don't forget at the end of the day I am a journalist so I have to be somewhere honest to my profession and that was the whole idea of this biography. I wanted to tell a story and I wanted to tell it as honestly as possible." The actor is believed to have taken strong exception to Nandita talking about his sexual encounters with his 55-year-old maid Santi at the age of 14. Nandita has also written about his affair with another maid Lakshmi, whom he even wanted to marry. Nandita, a journalist by profession, had spoken at length about her husband's sex life in her interview to Barkha Dutt. According to her: "When I first married Om, he did tell me this incident about his maid. But I didn't take it very seriously because I think deep down Om was honest enough to confide in me years ago. But I am sure such incidents happen with lots of men who don't normally want to talk about their past. But when I was writing the biography I knew that my son would also read it at some point of time. It was entirely up to me to add this or not. But somewhere I felt if it had to be told it had to told truthfully and honestly. Being a journalist I felt we will put everything aside and just go ahead and tell the story well." There are more shocking revelations in Nandita's book. Her husband, she claims, was sexually molested at the age of 6. The biography also talks about Puri's journey from poverty to becoming one of the most celebrated actors in the world today. According to Nandita, the book tells the story about a man with all his human flaws, failings, his generosity and also his temper, his gullibility and a lot of things that make him more humane. Kannada Rajyotsava celebrations, on Sunday, was marked by the release of Kannada matinee idol late Rajkumar’s stamp brought out by the Indian Postal Department. Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa released the stamp at a function organised by the Information Department in Bangalore. Rajkumar is the first film personality in the State and the 31st in the country to have this honour. The Postal Department has brought stamps in memory of 40 Kannadigas, who excelled in various fields including M Visvesvaraya, C V Raman, Kuvempu, Shivarama Karanth. Chief Postmaster General (Karnataka Circle) M P Rajan said that stamp priced at Rs 5 would be available in all post offices in the State from November 3. Stamps would be available for sales for about six months. The Chief Minister appreciated the Centre for bringing out the stamp in recognition of Rajkumar’s contribution to the Kannada filmdom. The State government of Karnataka had spent Rs 3 crore so far for the construction of Raj’s memorial in Bangalore. The second phase of construction would kickstart soon. He said Bangalore Development Authority (BDA) has allotted 2.5 acres of land in Nandini Layout for the construction of Amrutha Mahotsava Bhavan, which would house a library and other offices related to film activities. A low-key affair In another function organised by the Department of Public Instruction, B S Yeddyurappa appealed to the Centre to ensure that Kannada language was accorded all facilities, as other languages with classical language status.
